Applications are invited for a fixed term Lecturer to expand the team of academics employed by King's College London at the prestigious and historic Royal Air Force College (RAFC)in Cranwell, Lincolnshire, with teaching responsibilities there and at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire. You should ideally have a recognised expertise in air power studies, the ethical dimension of conflict or another directly related discipline within the defence and security studies field. |

Due to the syndicate teaching methods employed at the RAFC, applicants will need to run seminars across the broad spectrum of defence studies and to acquire and demonstrate a more specialised knowledge of the main themes and concepts of air power. Besides teaching as directed at Cranwell and Halton, you will be expected to, run overseas and local staff rides, assist with the overall administration of the Department and undertake other institutionally beneficial activities that enhance King's relationship with the Royal Air Force. A track record of previous teaching experience will normally be required. Appointments will be made on the Grade 5/6 scale currently £25,623 to £36,532 per annum pro rata dependent upon relevant qualifications and experience. You should be able to commence duties no later than 1 May 2009. |

The RAAF has recently established a lecturer position to be known as the Chief of Air Force Fellow in Air Power at the University of New South Wales, Australian Defence Force Academy Campus here in Canberra, Australia. The position has been established with appointment for a two year fixed-term (with the possibility of a one year extension) and has an approved funding line for the next 10 years.
The details of the position are as follows;
Chief of Air Force Fellow in Air Power
This position is a two-year fixed term period with a possible one-year extension..
Salary: Level B: $73,573 - $86,734 per annum
Level C: $89,362 - $102,523 per annum
This position will enable the School to develop and expand its teaching and research into the areas of air power and air strategy for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and to support the School’s Professional Education Program. This position will also work closely with representatives of the Air Power Development Centre. You will be able to supervise research students in these fields.

The Office of Air Force History within the Air Power Development Centre is currently seeking to employ a senior analyst in a newly created position within the Office of Air Force History. This person would take the lead in providing regular historical analysis of air campaigns past and present, to distil and highlight lessons and trends at the strategic level of air power. The person would develop and craft historical judgments for input into studies and other products of the APDC involving future concepts and doctrine development, while maintaining oversight of historical records collection and management activities within the OAFH. The successful applicant will require high level research and analysis skills, superior knowledge of air power history and RAAF history in particular, and outstanding written and oral communication skills as would enable them to deputise for the RAAF Historian and present at conference or other public events.

Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow in Air Power Studies
This exciting initiative, funded by the Royal Aeronautical Society, is intended to promote a broader and deeper understanding of air power issues, to provide a national forum for the exchange of information and to stimulate research into all aspects of air power. A relevant postgraduate qualification, teaching experience and excellent communication skills are required. In addition, for the Senior Research Fellow, an established research profile in Air Power Studies and demonstrable leadership skills are essential and a track record of writing successful funding bids is highly desirable. The ultimate responsibility of the Fellow will be to establish a Centre for Air Power Studies within the War Studies Group, and to become an academic focal point on all aspects of air power. The appointment will be for an initial period of three years from 1st September 2008.
Research Fellow, Starting salary £33,779 to £40,335 a year (potential progression on performance once in post to £45,397 a year).
Senior Research Fellow, Starting salary £41,545 to £48,161 a year (potential progression on performance once in post to £51,095 a year).
